Madonna del Ghisallo

Stats: 80km | 550m Climb
Grade: Intermediate

This beautiful ride begins in Cernobbio (or wherever your hotel is located), where we stretch our legs along the mostly level but wonderfully winding western edge of Lake Como, not-to-be missed coffee stop at the Pasticceria Rossi, the oldest Cafeteria in Bellagio, before we tackle the iconic 10k climb to Madonna del Ghisallo. Here, take your time and take in the Madonna’s rich history. And when ready, we’ll enjoy a leisurely descent to lake Como’s eastern coastline, finally returning to Como

The Classic Loop of Lake Lugano

Stats: 83.5km | 600m Climb
Grade: Gentle

Riding into Switzerland we climb gently through Chiasso and Mendrisio, then down behind Capolago to Riva San Vitale. Around the curving shore of beautiful Lake Lugano we re-enter Italy, ride through Porto Ceresio and on to Ponte Tresa – a pretty spot for a coffee. We continue around the edge of the lake, crossing back into Switzerland. For a short time we then leave the lake and cut across Caslano and ride past the end of Lugano Airport’s runway. We then cross the causeway over the lake to Bissone, and return along the lake’s eastern edge back to Chiasso and on to our starting point on Lake Como

The Border Run (Italy – Switzerland)

Stats: 88.6km | 1250m Climb
Grade:
Intermediate | Advanced Climbing

We start our ride on the edge of Lake Como and head west crossing into Switzerland. We then cross the Lake on the causeway taking a scenic elevated road to the beautiful Swiss city of Lugano. There is a short climb out of Lugano which affords spectacular views of the lake. We cross the border back into Italy and reach Porlezza, an ideal spot for a coffee stop and refuel. The route continues around the top of lake Lugano staying on its shore and climb steeply up and away from the lake. Climbing continues to San Fedele d’Intelvi and then we coast down to the edge of Lake Como near Argegno, and return to our starting point along the western shore of Lake Como through the lovely old towns of Laglio and Moltrasio.

Monte Bre Above Lugano

Stats: 81 km – 1050 meters total climbing
Grade:

This ride may not be the most popular around here but to my mind is one of most scenic of the area. The climb to Monte Brè starts right in the center town of Lugano, measures approximately 8 km and offers breathtaking views from right from the start until the Bellavista terrace where you will enjoy the best possible vista of Lugano, Monte Salvatore and the surrounding mountains. The first (and last) part of the ride is farely easy and flat and the climb to the top of Brè does not ever get over 7/8%

Easy Tour

Stats: 80km | 550m Climb
Grade:
Easy

This picturesque and leisurely guided ride take us along the lake from Cernobbio down a quiet, winding road, passing George Clooney’s Villa and on into Laglio where we take a brief stop at a favorite local cafe Da Luciano. The tour is just a couple hours but is a great way to see the lake region while passing through border crossings dating back to WWII, into and out of Switzerland on our way back.

Gravel Guided Tour (Crossing Borders Italy/Switzerland)

Stats: 55/65 km | 600 meters total climbing
Grade:

If you love gravel riding and want to stay away from cars as much as possible this Tour is a great option: a mix of gravel trails, quiet roads alongside (Swiss) Merlot vineyards riding secondary roads through tiny villages across the border into Switzerland’s Ticino region, the Italian speaking Canton across the border.

Serpiano

Stats: 60 km and 650 meters total climbing
Grade:

Not far from the Italian/Swiss border the Serpiano lookout seats at 650 meters above Sea level (approximately 2150 feet) and offers a breathtaking view of Lake Lugano, Monte San Salvatore, Morcote and some of the Alps snowy peaks! Serpiano truly is a lovely spot and the last part of the ride through the forest leading to the terrace is absolutely gorgeous and so relaxing. This area, Monte San Giorgio, has recently been declared UNESCO’s heritage. You will really enjoy the first part of the ride as well along pretty vineyards: Canton Ticino is a major producer of Merlot wine

Mtb Tour Pin Umbrela

Stats:
Grade:

Experience the amazing view of Lake Como from above on a MTB ride (or an assisted eMTB). Riding through Parco Naturale Spina Verde you will reach the top of Pin Umbrela where the views are just breathtaking. This beautiful area is historically important as well, this is the Linea Cadorna, officially the Northern Frontier, this was the Italian defensive system on the northern border facing Switzerland, designed and built between 1899 and 1918 to protect the main industrial centres from an attack by Austria-Hungary violating Swiss neutrality

Valle Intelvi

Stats: 70 km and 1200 dslv
Grade:

Riding along the western shore of Italy’s most celebrated and arguably most beautiful lake, we will reach the village of Argegno where the climb towards Val d’Intelvi starts. This amazingly beautiful valley connects Lake Como to Lake Lugano. A mandatory and well deserved coffee stop in the mountain village of Lanzo d’Intelvi before descending into Swiss territory and along the shores of Lake Lugano we will cycle back to Cernobbio.

Val di Muggio/Scudellate

Stats: 55 km and 1000 dslv
Grade:

Starting from Cernobbio -or from wherever your Hotel is located- in few kilometers you can easily reach the border with Switzerland and as soon as you leave Lake Como’s shores amazingly you find yourself right into the foothills of the Alps. Cycling up Valle di Muggio is an unforgettable ride passing through so many little mountain villages, old fountains, water mills and ancient stone bridges all surrounded by chestnut forests. A quick stop for a coffee and a slice of homemade cake at Osteria Manciana and then we will return riding on the other side of the valley back into civilization.
